About databaum:


We are a thriving agriculture tech (AgTech) start-up with a clear vision of making farming sustainable, ecological, and affordable. We are the symbiose of science, technology, and business. Over the last 2 years we have developed solutions that help farmers to get better control of their disease management by applying disruptive technologies based on the latest scientific research findings. Our unique microclimate disease prediction model helps farmers to decide on when to best apply pesticides to prevent from spreading diseases. This will help farmers to secure their yield and to save on pesticides usage. All the collected data from the field with our own sensors help nourishing our machine learning model that constantly improves the prediction accuracy. In our self-developed app, farmers have their field information at their fingertips. We have launched our MVP and received validation on our technology from leading Swiss institutes. We are backed and supported by a strong team of experts that helps driving our project to the next level. We are also subsidized by the competitive InnoRampUp fond from Hamburg.


Our next step is to commercialize our product and professionalize the organization. For that matter, we are running into the seed round in Q1 2023. So far, we have been supported by an experienced interim CEO (also a key investor in this project) who lead the project into the MVP stage but who will phase out towards the end of 2022. Now, we are looking for a strong and experienced full-time leader who is willing and motivated to catapult our project onto the next level. About the position:


As CEO you will be building databaum with us from the MVP stage to the operationalization stage. We have a strong pull from the market for our technology and now need to create the relevant infrastructure to support the commercialization. You will be leading databaum into the growth phase from 2023 in Switzerland and drive the internationalization from 2024. Together with our two bright and dedicated co-founders (plant-scientist and tech enthusiast) and a future head of sales, you will build the A-Team that will drive our vision. You benefit from the support of an experienced steering board that includes among other successful serial entrepreneurs, technology experts, business strategists and oenologists.


As our CEO of databaum, you will oversee the strategy and develop it further together with our co-founders, build and manage the team, build relationships with key stakeholders and prepare for a successful seed round in Q1 2023. Given the team size of 7 employees and a strong network of freelancers and consultants we have already a strong backbone. Nevertheless, a lot of duties are spread across the team of which you are expected to carry your share, even if they are not directly related to a typical CEO role in an established organization. You must be ready for the start-up experience and its respective challenges and hands-on mentality. Aside of a great experience and opportunity you will be incentivized with a significant shares package, so you will participate on the success of our project.


How can you help us?

  • Further develop databaum’s strategy in line with our vision and the maximization of databaum’s enterprise value in collaboration with our co-founders and sounding board
  • Deliver on our strong investment case and business plan by adequately using and acquiring capital for new financial rounds in cooperation with our finance partner
  • Execute on the strategy by building the right organization, hiring the right people, and setting up prosperous cooperations
  • Continuously seek for new business opportunities by identifying market opportunities and enhancing your network in the AgTech business environment
  • Achieve our high-level organization goals in the areas of product development, financials and market penetration
  • Oversee the market development with the Head of Sales and support in building an outstanding sales and marketing organization for Switzerland and bordering countries (France, Germany) from 2024 onwards
  • Be the interface between operations, sounding board, investors and external partners and become the go-to and trust person for all stakeholders
  • Show leadership and steer the organization also in challenging times confidently and trustworthy
  • Build, develop and manage a strong team - act as mediator if needed and take difficult decisions in case of competing priorities

What do we expect from you?

  • You are motivated and clear about taking on a demanding, highly challenging opportunity in a start-up company that we want to bring from MVP to commercialization
  • You have a proven track record as a senior leader in a challenging business environment (e.g. start-up, top tier business consultancy, investment bank, fast pace corporate environment)
  • You are a bold, curious, and mission-driven entrepreneurial-minded professional equipped with strong analytical skills who possesses skills among others in business modelling, financial modelling, market modelling, funding process, valuation modeling
  • You have worked and lived abroad and you are familiar with international fast scaling projects - ideally with a background in business, agriculture, or chemicals
  • Proven track record of working in multidisciplinary teams (science, technology, sales)
  • being able to deal with uncertainty and navigate an entire organization confidently at the same time
  • You bring a good network to the table that will help databaum to develop the project further. A strong benefit would be your connection to institutions, wine farmers, research facilities, stakeholders in the area of plant diseases, and venture capital
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills and brand-building capabilities
  • You have a genuine interest in working on a project that has a strong ecological impact
  • You speak German and English fluently. An additional European language would be a plus (French, Spanish, Italian)
  • You have a degree from ETH/EPFL or another leading university with a strong record
